Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really a hand painted oil painting?
All paintings on our website are hand painted. We don't sell prints, only paintings, hand drawn in traditional way by our professional artists.
Our products are the highest quality fine art reproductions. We ensure that every piece of art shipped will meet the standard that you expect.

Will the painting look just like it does on the website?
We have strict standard to ensure that our website images accurately represent the painting that you have ordered. There may be small subtle differences but each picture will remain true to the original. The painting you receive will be more impressive than a 2 dimensional image on a screen.

Are the paintings delivered framed or unframed?
All our paintings are sold unframed and shipped in a protective shipping tube. Paintings are safely packed with plastic layers in between.
The price of  framed oil painting will increase significantly due to much higher shipping costs. For this reasons, we recommend that you take your painting to be framed at a local picture-framing shop. However as a gift idea, framing services are available to the order shipped to Singapore and China. Please refer to our Framing Services section.

Can you do paintings from photographs?
Absolutely. We've a number of artists here who specialize in painting from photos, so please feel free to send us the image by email, along with desired size and any special instructions you might have (detail or color changes, for example) and we'll give you a quote. Please refer to our Photos Into Art section for more information

How do I pay?
Choose the painting you like, click on the "Buy Now" button and continue shopping. While checking out, use any standard credit card / debit card for payment. Other payment options are available Here. For bulk order, please refer to our Wholesale section. We have different payment options available for wholesale customers, who may wish to buy in bulk or by the container-load.
Payment, except for certain bulk buyers, is made in full at the time of ordering.

Is using a credit card with you safe?
The standard mode of payment at Oilpainting2000.com is via world pay (WorldPay is part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group) online secure payment gateway.  We do accept phone order for payment by credit card, however confirmation of your order is needed by e-mail. Furthermore, all credit card purchases are guaranteed by your own credit company as well as by the processor.

When will I receive my order?
All orders are processed once payment has been received in full. Most paintings take about 12 to 14 business days to complete. However, very large, highly detailed or textured paintings (such as Vincent Van Gogh's) may take slightly longer. Shipping lead time by express delivery usually takes 2-4 days or less, depending on the location and time of year (the Christmas rush often slows things down, for example).

Will I have to pay customs duty?
This varies from country-to-country. Generally, our customers will not have to pay duty on personal items less than $500 in value and in most countries hand-painted oils on canvas do not attract duty. However, please check the Customs or the postal authorities in your country if you have any questions. U.S. Customs imposes NO IMPORT DUTY on hand painted oil on canvas paintings. The point of entry into the United States makes no difference nor does the state of final destination.

What about copyright?
All paintings on our website are either in the public domain (no longer protected by copyright) or being sold under license, you need not worry about infringing on any one's rights.

Is shipping free? Do you ship to Canada/UK/Saudi Arabia etc.?
Shipping cost is individual calculated and added to the order based on quantity and shipping location. This method of shipping allow us to sell our oil painting at the lowest wholesale prices. We ship our painting world wide.

What happens if the painting arrives damaged?
If the painting arrives damaged point this out to the courier immediately, and also inform us. We will see a replacement is sent to you at the earlier possible opportunity.

Do your artists sign the paintings?
Our artists never sign the painting unless requested by buyer.

Do you also sell original art?
We do, and will be adding much more in the coming months. Watch this space!

What's the biggest size you do?
Although our largest standard size is 48 by 72 inches, we are able to paint your oil painting to any size specifications that you require.

Can I order in non-standard sizes?
Yes, please feel free to request any size you want. We recommend that the size chosen matches reasonably closely to the original in terms of height / width ratio, but we can crop or do "detail" (paintings of a part of an original, such as the hands touching from Michelangelo's Creation of Adam) if customers wish. The artists are extremely flexible, and will be happy to work to your specifications.

Who pays Customs / tax?
Although we pay shipping any local Customs' fees or tax is the responsibility of the customer. In our experience, most paintings arrive without any tax being levied, although some countries (such as Australia and Italy) do occasionally levy a quarantine fee or import tax.

Can I send you an old black and white photo to be painted in color?
Yes, many of our customers turn old and damaged photographs into beautiful portraits. Such details can be added as color or even corrections to parts of the photographs that are damaged. Although we do prefer as clear photographs as possible to work with, in cooperation with our customers we have created some excellent art work from some very poor, old photographs. If the photo is too damaged, it may help to provide other images to help with details (see Can I send in more than one photo to help provide details?)

Can I send in more than one photo to help provide details?
Many of our customers send in extra photos solely to provide details and clarity that may be missing in the main photograph to be rendered into an oil painting. This is very helpful to our artists and helps to assure that the end result is as close to perfect as possible. Many customers also send in extra photos to have details added (see Can I send in more than one photo to be combined into one oil portrait?).

Do you have an affiliate program?
Yes, We do, and are always keen to hear from new ones. Please see Affiliates for more information.
